OVERSEAL BANDING
Overseal Banding has been accepted as a cost effective maintenance process for a number of years and its use can be expected to increase substantially due to the combined effect of stiffer design mix asphalt, increasing vehicle weights, together with the longer service life, demanded of surfaces, by current financial restraints. An unfortunate consequence of overseal banding has hitherto been that
the skid resistance of the surface has been reduced to unacceptably low
levels, particularly where wider bands are used longitudinally. A new
development of overseal banding materials was completed and
following extensive trials in the intervening period is now specified
exclusively
by a number of County Authorities giving an anti-skid value comparable
with road markings.
